Lucknow University
Hon’ble Raja Sir Mohammad Ali Mohammad Khan, K.C.I.E. of Mahmudabad first brought up the idea of settling a university in the political capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. The then appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the United Provinces, Sir Harcourt Butler, further took initiatives for establishment of the University in 1919. After passing through several other procedures, the Lucknow University Act No. of 1920 received the assent of the Lieutenant-Governor in 1920. After construction of the Court of the University, Executive Council, the Academic Council, and Faculties, teaching in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Law was started in Canning College and Faculty of Medicine in King George’s Medical College and Hospital in 1921. As such, King George’s Medical College, Canning College and Isabella Thoburn College took lead in placing the foundation stone of the University.
