Incepted by 1975, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has emerged as a leading teaching and research hub. Named after the freedom fighter par excellence Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, the University expanded from an affiliating university to a residential university in 1984. Since its very inception, the University has been contributing significantly in transforming the higher education scenario of Uttar Pradesh through perfection and excellence. The University is largely devoted towards undergraduate and post graduate studies and widely known for its effective research programmes, backed by a good number of distinguished faculties. The large campus, sited in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh has immense bio-diversity and provides the campus natural scenic beauty.
Educational Streams
Initially started with four departments within the campus, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia University conducted higher educational programmes in History, Culture & Archaeology; Rural Economics; Mathematics & Statistics; and Solid State Physics. With each passing year, the University has been incessantly growing and adding on several undergraduate, post graduate and research courses in a wide spectrum of traditional and contemporary subjects. To expand its horizon of research studies, the University established its contacts with several research institutes abroad, especially with Abudus Salam International Center for the Theoretical Physics, Trieste (Italy). Currently, a huge number of affiliated colleges function under the University, which are spread over 9 districts of Faizabad, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Balrampur, Baharaich, Shravasti and Gonda, to strengthen the educational parameter of the University.
Facilities
The location of the University presents a scenic natural view nestled among lush greenery and a congenial atmosphere. The University campus occupies a sprawling campus area of 112.24 acres and has possessed a distinctive architectural look as well. The state-of-the-art campus comprises of smart and adequate infrastructures which provide a pleasant and intellectually stimulating ambience to both students and faculty members. As one of the premiere Universities in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the University campus houses sophisticated and high tech instrumental facilities, like central library, Student Amenity Center, separate residential accommodation for students and faculty members, health centre, guest house, NCC wing, NSS cell, community center, gymnasium, sports council and actively engaged placement cell under proper supervision.
History
Founded in the memory of late Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a frontier socio-economic leader and well known freedom fighter on July 25, 1975, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University is an affiliating university. It later received the status of a residential university in 1984. The University was set up by the Government of Uttar Pradesh as Avadh University abide by U.P. University Act, 1973 section 4 (1-A) (b). Recognized under section 12-B of the U.G.C. Act, 1956 University Grants Commission (UGC), the University receives financial assistance from UGC for sheer growth and successful conduct of academic activities.
