Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur, a leading educational hub in Uttar Pradesh, came into existence to impart teaching, training and research and seek solutions to problems related to agriculture, agricultural engineering, home science and other allied sciences. The University was created with the union of two different colleges and satisfies the needs of farming community, spread over 29 districts of six divisions, in Uttar Pradesh. The University conducts job-oriented professional education under three different faculties, i.e., agriculture, home science, and agricultural engineering. The Agricultural Knowledge Management Units (AKMU), founded in 1998, provides all types of hardware and software computer solutions to various offices of the University and heads of the Department of its constituent colleges. Besides, it has started Agricultural Technology Information Centre (ATIC) sponsored by Indian Council of Agriculture Research, New Delhi, to provide essential services to the farmers.
 
Educational Streams
With the objective of assuring prosperity of farmers and rural community through diversification and intensification of agriculture education and make Indian agriculture globally competent, the University fosters best of academic programmes. It manages the stipulated task of teaching, research and extension activities and provides new fillip to specific programmes in the fields concerned with agriculture. The University has a full fledged campus with comprehensive infrastructure for quality learning. Keeping in view the need of extensive academic programmes, the University is categorized into three faculties. Currently, the University conducts undergraduate and post graduate courses in agriculture and its related areas with distinctive specializations through these departments.
 
Facilities
The University is spread over two campuses, located in the metropolitan city of Kanpur, on Howrah-Delhi route of Northern Railway, and in Etawah. The University campus comprises of an independent township in itself. Well connected by almost all the means of transport, it facilitates excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure with absolute boarding and lodging facilities in terms of separate residential accommodation for boys and girls along with modernized mess arrangements. It provides primary health services at both Kanpur and Etawah campuses. With the aim of providing quality extra-curricular activities, the University co-ordinates NCC, NSS, cultural activities and several indoor and outdoor sports facilitating the overall personality development. The administrative department also supervises Student Union activities, thus allowing them to work in a democratic way and bridging the gap between students and administration.
 
History
The University was generated by assimilating two of its constituent colleges, the earlier Government Agriculture College, Kanpur and UP College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Mathura. Recognizing the importance of agricultural growth and development and to develop agriculture education, research and extension in Uttar Pradesh, the University was originated way back as a small school in 1893 to train the then revenue officers. Thereafter in 1906, it stepped ahead to become the full-fledged Government Agriculture College, then UP Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1969 and finally to Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology in 1975.
